Plan on WhatsAppExtra for overnight camps
- Warm fleece or jacket: high-range nights can drop below 10°C in winter
- Thermal top for sleeping, woollen cap and socks
- Headlamp with spare batteries
- Small towel, toothbrush and biodegradable soap
- Sleeping bag liner (we provide sleeping bags and tents)

Leave at home
- Single-use plastic. Many forest areas ban it, and checks are common.
- Speakers. Keep the forest quiet for wildlife and other trekkers.
- Alcohol, which is not allowed in forest areas and is dangerous on trails.
- Heavy cotton clothes that stay wet for hours.
Packing tips
Keep the bag under 6–7 kg for day treks. Put heavy items close to your back, rain gear on top, and pack everything inside a plastic-free dry bag or liner. Ready for the trail? Pick from our beginner treks or check the best time to go.
Frequently asked questions
What shoes are best for trekking in Kerala?
Trail shoes or light trekking shoes with deep grip. Kerala trails are often wet and muddy, so grip matters more than ankle height. Avoid brand-new shoes.
How do I avoid leeches on a Kerala trek?
Wear leech socks or long socks over your trousers, and carry a small pouch of salt or a spray recommended by your guide. Leeches are common in monsoon and post-monsoon months.
How much water should I carry?
At least 2 litres for a day trek and 3 litres for long or hot days. Ask your guide where you can refill safely.
