The rare Neelakurinji has flowered across the slopes of Meesapulimala, the second-highest peak in the Western Ghats, at a time when the bloom has faded in most other parts of Munnar. The Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC) has opened special packages so you can see the purple-blue hills up close — by jeep, on a longer trek, or with a night on the mountain.
What’s happening
Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana) carpets the high grasslands only about once every 12 years. This season, Meesapulimala is one of the best places to catch it. Entry is controlled by KFDC and capped every day, so plan and book ahead — tickets are not sold at the spot.
